Restauri

Technique:
The artworks feature antique canvases from diverse epochs and cultures, primarily painted in oils and subsequently affixed to specially crafted wooden frames. Localized watercolour restorations were executed on the canvases, adhering to a specific restoration technique, according to which any additional restoration must be removable without impacting the original artwork.
Concept of the artwork:
This series explores the effects of time, delving into the abstraction and decomposition that ensue when an artwork is not preserved in a museum, where it is protected from the natural ageing process.
In this process, time and the almost always accidental events associated with it are recognized as decisive and crucial factors shaping the final outcome of the painting.
The objective is to restore only the painted parts that appear more defined on the canvas, preserving the concept of abstraction and change that occurs in the artwork due to the wear and advanced deterioration it has undergone.
Common characteristics evident in these artworks include heavily worn and darkened surfaces that fragment the paint film. On these surfaces, details emerge that are difficult to interpret, and that abstract themselves and significantly deviate from the meaning conveyed by the original painting.
In contrast to the tradition and practice of full restoration, involving the uniform restoration of the entire painted surface through cleaning, levelling cracks, and retouching, in this series, only the details and fragments ‘selected by time’ will be restored.
