Frescoes

Technique:
This artistic project involves the restoration of frescoed walls. The primer will consist of lime putty on the front side and slaked lime on the back. Subsequently, the surfaces will be finished with pure pigments, reliefs in hot chalk, and inserts of 24-karat gold leaf.
Concept of the artwork:
This series aims to establish a dialogue between the frescoed celestial vaults and the engagement of teenagers with these artworks. Specifically, many of these masterpieces known to date often undergo restoration because, over time, various parts have been lost due to weathering. Restoration work often involves mapping and reconstructing these missing elements. Special attention is directed towards these pieces/pixels, as each is regarded as a highly valuable stand-alone abstract part, possessing a distinct intrinsic identity even when isolated and extracted from its original context. Coloured filters inspired by the hues of sunglasses worn by teenagers, who often visit museums and art venues distractedly, were applied to these elements. Specifically, in this scenario, Giotto’s chapel is visited by a group of teenage students wearing coloured sunglasses. The tinted lenses act as a filter, interposing themselves between the eyes of the casually observing viewer and the artwork. This interaction results in an unforeseen shift in conventional imagery.
The installation of these fragments extracted from the context of their original composition virtually introduces the visitor to various cutaway views from alternate dimensions that seem to float in space.
